Well, well, well… we’re writing to you from another part of London, Surray Quays to be exact and our new home. We moved in with the wonderful help of Amy and Troy last Thursday night (thanks to our bulging bags and growing possessions extra hands were a must!). The house is a lot cleaner than our last place and little bit more modern and comfortable. It’s a lot smaller in general, although our room is about the same large size, but it’s cozy and will be very comfy come winter. We’re sharing with six others – five South Africans and one guy from Greece who are all very nice.
Since then, we haven’t done a whole lot, but Matt did manage to sneak away from London on a day trip to St. Albans with Amy while the both of them weren’t working. We also spent a wonderful day at Portobello Road market – the perfect way to spend a Sunday. We had brunch with our incredible friends and then slowly wandered through the stalls that were full of second-hand clothes, bags, shoes, records, books, jewellery and general knickknacks. They also had delicously-mouth-watering cupcakes (I can still taste them!). The markets are a great place to pick up bargain clothes and will be a real magnet when it comes to winter when we’re searching for thick woolly coats!
We spent our Sunday afternoon on a Harry Potter walking tour. Correction… a ‘architecture sites of London’ walking tour with a bit of Harry Potter banter thrown in. There wasn’t much Harry Potter-ness to the tour, but it was still interesting learning about some of the more iconic buildings in London. We’re going to go in search of Platform nine and three-quarters another day!
Last night we also saw Sister Act the musical, which was great. It was very different from the movie and there is almost a whole new storyline, but the music was great and the costumes were all glitter (glittery nuns!). Our whole intention of seeing the musical was to see Whoopi Goldberg who was meant to be performing for three weeks in August, except, we learnt, for our night and one other night. Although a bit disappointed, it was still a great performance. But no matter, we’ll see our fill of celebrities soon! There are numerous movie premieres happening in London every month and we’ve sourced a website that lets us know upcoming red carpet events. We’ll be stalking celebrities in London very soon!
Coming up on our travel agenda is Belgium at the end of August, Germany (Oktoberfest!) at the end of September, and then Paris and Wales in October, which we are all very VERY excited about!
Some recent photos from our last week can be found on Facebook!
Till next time lots of love,
Mel and Matt xoxox
